Successful Niche Marketing
For Your Home Based Business

There are three key constituents to a successful niche marketing strategy for your home based business: sending the right message to the right audience using effective channels of communication.

The most important of these is to address the correct target audience for your service. Let's imagine that you are selling home made take away food. Let's also say that you live near a sports stadium and that thousands of people walk past your property when there's a game on. Provided you set out your stall near the road, you are likely to make a lot of sales! Even if your advertising flyers are rubbish, you have laid out your food in front of a hungry crowd. That's what you need to find - a niche with a hungry crowd.

However, let's hope that your advertising flyers are better than rubbish! They may not be flyers. It might be a web site. It might be a yellow pages advert. Whatever it is, this second point is about your message - your unique selling proposition. What if the crowd doesn't walk past your property on the way to the game? Maybe they need to make a short diversion to get to you. That's when you need a strong direct advertising message that hits the emotions of your potential customers.

Thirdly, how are you going to communicate this message to your customers? You need to select and test out what works best in your situation. Flyers, web site, yellow pages, newspapers, radio. Whichever method you use, you need to be able to monitor the results. How many customers did each advert bring? How much did they spend?

The biggest mistake most business owners make is to focus entirely on the third element - "Let's do an advert", with very little effort being put into finding the niche and a forging a unique selling proposition.
