Starting a Bookkeeping Business From Home
One of the great points about starting a bookkeeping business from home is that you will be providing a much needed service. Many entrepreneurs hate paperwork. So selling your service should not be a major problem. Also, you can work part time or full time, and you can visit your customers or work online. Your potential customers will be small businesses. Most of these will already use the services of a qualified tax accountant to file year end returns, and also for tax advice. Bookkeepers offer a connected but essentially different service. One of your main tasks will be to get the books of account and paperwork organised during the year so that the tax accountant has better information to work with. You may also be helping customers plan and improve their cashflow, and perhaps assist with payroll calculations. Not too many years ago, you would have had to visit your customers' premises to complete their accounting records by hand. You can still do that if you wish, but computers have made the job much easier with Quick Books software or other easy to use accounting programs. You can even work online book keeping from home. Of course, this widens the scope of your possible customer base and makes it much more viable for you to find customers if you are based in a very rural area rather than a town.
