Introduction to
MLM Home Based Businesses

Robert Kiyosaki suggests that mlm home based businesses are the ideal way for someone with a full time day job to start learning about business systems. If you make a success of it, this can be an excellent route to residual income, but it is the educational aspect that attracts Kiyosaki.

MLM stands for multilevel marketing and it is also known as network marketing. Like Kiyosaki, I used to be sceptical about this sort of enterprise but I have tried it and, from my experience, I can say that it is a legitimate work at home opportunity.

Here's how it works. There are two levels of activity.

At the first level you are in effect a self employed commission salesman for a large company, though you are called a distributor. The good point about this is that, like a franchise, you don't have to create your own business idea. Also the company sorts out most of the back office paperwork. You just focus on finding customers. In the business I am involved with, I get paid a monthly residual income commission for as long as the customer stays with the company. The key point here is that the underlying produce or service you are selling must be good as you need to sign up long term customers.

At the second level, you recruit and manage a sales team. You find new people to sign up as distributors. You get paid nothing when they join up, but the company pays you a commission based on the customers your team recruits. In effect, when your team members receive a 'level one' commission, you get paid a 'level two' commission. Plus there can be various bonuses for developing larger teams of distributors.

There is no doubt that it is possible to generate very high levels of remuneration in mlm home based businesses. On the other hand, and despite what anyone tells you, you have to be a reasonably effective salesman to recruit customers or new distributors. That's why it is so important to choose the right network marketing company. If customers really want the company's products, it makes your selling job much easier.
