Effective Low Cost
Home Business Advertising

The same principles apply to home business advertising as to any small business marketing. It's about small experiments to find out what works rather than wasting money on untested and expensive newspaper advertisements.

YOUR UNIQUE SELLING PROPOSITION

Before you start thinking about advertising you need to have worked out your unique selling proposition - your USP. As discussed in the niche marketing articles, your USP is the reason why anyone would choose to buy from you rather than from your competitors. Then it's useful to know some copywriting basics so you can develop clear messages for your home business advertising initiatives.

AIMS OF EFFECTIVE ADVERTISING

Advertising a home based business has two aims. First, you need to attract potential customers. Second, you need to filter out anyone who has no real interest in buying from you. So, hopefully, you end up with a regular flow of prospects who have a genuine interest in what you offer. This attraction and filtering process is called preselling. The more effectively you presell, the more likely it is that your potential customer will buy.

SMALL BUSINESS ADVERTISING IDEAS

There are quite a few small business advertising ideas to consider.

Some of these involve trying to build quick sales while others are more of a slow build strategy.

It's a good idea to assess the different possibilities and of course to avoid blowing your budget on untested and expensive newspaper adverts.

If you follow a low cost strategy, it's very valuable if you can manage to get some free newspaper advertising.

If you are wondering about whether internet marketing is a possibility it's useful to look at how to obtain cheap web advertising, and also to read some simple articles on how to set up a web site suitable for a work at home small business. In particular, you may want to read about what I've found works in respect of web site hosting and internet marketing strategy.

Whatever method you use to let your target customers know about your products or service, it's important to use a direct response strategy where you can measure the effectiveness of each method. That's the only way to find out what works best.

It's also very important to send out a clear message focused on your USP. Big corporations can afford long term brand building strategies but a small enterprise needs immediate results. Along with your unique selling proposition it's good to provide good quality information so you can position yourself as an expert in your industry.

Remember, for a small enterprise, results are all that matter when it comes to measuring what attracts well qualified potential customers.
