What is cashflow? It is the difference between the money you receive over a period of say a month, and the money you pay out in the same period. As Charles Dickens wrote in one of his novels, if you receive even slightly more each month you can gradually increase your wealth, whereas if you pay out even a bit more each month you sink a little more into debt. When you receive more than you pay out that is positive cashflow.

You money you receive can come in two main ways - either as a trickle each month or as a large lump sum. For example, if your plan is making extra money from home, you are likely to feel much better about your venture if you receive enough money each month to more than cover your home business expenditure.

However, wouldn't it be a huge bonus if one day also received a bonus lump sum of money? This is most likely to happen if you build a successful enterprise and then sell it.

If you have the opportunity to sell your business though, you always need to weigh up the benefits of receiving this one off lump sum against giving up the regular income from your homebased business.
