Calling Avon at home
by Kelsey
(Concord, NH)
My husband and I have wanted to start a family for quite a few years, but we never felt that we were in jobs that paid us enough for one of us to be a stay at home parent. One of our friends suggested starting up a work from home business so we could do both, and we’ve never looked back. We get the same amount of income (a little more in good months), and we get free childcare during the day (i.e. me!). My business runs like a mini Avon, but it’s more social. I host events at my house each day where other people can drop by, try different perfumes, make up and accessories and buy what they like. It also doubles as a crèche, and for a small charge I’ve hired a babysitter for the couple of hours that they’re here.
My kids are getting socialized and making neighborhood friends, and I’m getting to meet a lot of new people too. The job and my home life go hand in hand, as I’m not attached to my computer for more than an hour at a time, and I only work when my kids are asleep. I’m not sure that they even know that I work!
Stuart's comment: Thank you Kelsey. A home based business can be a great solution for parents who want or need to stay at home with young children. You seem to have achieved an excellent work life balance.
